What is soul retrieval?

“Soul Retrieval” refers to a specific, and ancient, shamanic technique whereby the practitioner sinks into a deep, meditative, lightly visionary state and “journeys” through spirit realms to locate and collect (if possible) any “soul parts” of the client that fled or dissociated during some past trauma. In this case, the healing session turns into more of a poetic journey, in which I “travel” (again, it is like virtual reality in my deepest mind) around through different vivid landscapes locating fragmented parts of your or your animal’s spirit, and persuading them (if possible) to return to you. Again, I won’t pretend to offer a satisfying, rational, or scientific explanation for why or how this technique works. I just know that often, after a few soul parts have been rounded up and returned, the person or animal can suddenly and miraculously recover. Ways open in people’s lives. Stubborn obstacles melt away. Old patterns release their grip. Not every time certainly, but so often that I’ve given up worrying too much about how this works. So long as it does work, with consistent and inspiring results in the physical world, I’m awed and humbled and mystified and deeply grateful. For more information, please read Sandra Ingerman’s excellent book Soul Retrieval.

In my experience it is entirely possible (and often necessary) to retrieve one’s own soul parts. If you are strongly drawn to the idea of soul retrieval, but not to the idea of inviting a stranger to rummage around in your etheric regions, I can coach you to journey on your own behalf. I believe that, like telepathy, the ability to receive direct, useful, profound and accurate communication from the spirit realm is our birthright (and responsibility) as humans, and something we are all competent and very much designed to do.

Silence is not just not talking. It's a void. It's a place where all things come from. All voices, all creation comes out of this silence. So when you're standing on the edge of silence, you hear things you've never heard before, and you hear things in ways you've never heard them before. ~John Francis

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There’s nothing enlightening about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. You were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s in everyone. And as we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. ~Mary Ann Williamson

The soul should always stand ajar, ready to welcome the ecstatic experience.          ~Emily Dickinson
