A note from Calloway
November 2007
And so it has been a year since I opened my practice to work by donation. One of the most satisfying, heartening years of my life.
“When the heart breaks open, it marks the beginning of a real love affair with this world. It is a broken hearted love affair, rather than the conventional kind based on hope and expectation. Only in this fearless love that can respond to life’s pain as well as its beauty can we be of real help to ourselves and anyone else in this difficult age.” ~John Welwood
Perhaps the thing that surprises me most is how much my work has been affected by this unconventional payment structure. It is far deeper, far more effective than it ever was when I was running an animal communication business. I don’t really understand why this is so, but I feel it, every session.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. ~Mark Twain
True heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost. ~Arthur Ashe
Our business in this world is not to succeed, but to continue to fail, in good spirits.
~Robert Louis Stevenson
Nobody grows old merely by living a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals. Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. ~Samuel Ullman
Service doesn't start when you have something to give -- it blossoms naturally when you have nothing left to take. ~Athem Nupin
It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power. ~Alan Cohen
Self-knowledge is best learned, not by contemplation, but by action. Strive to know and to do your duty and you will soon discover of what stuff you are made.
~Goethe
Refuse to fall down.
If you cannot refuse to fall down,
refuse to stay down.
If you cannot refuse to stay down,
lift your heart toward heaven
and like a hungry beggar,
ask that it be filled,
and it will be filled.
You may be pushed down.
You may be kept from rising.
But no one can keep you
from lifting your heart
toward heaven-
only you.
It is in the middle of misery
that so much becomes clear.
The one who says nothing good
came of this,
is not yet listening.
~Clarissa Pinkola Estes
